If solar is to gain the trust of homeowners, then it must be a dependable energy source.
Each month we measure the actual energy produced versus the estimated amounts we originally shared with our customers. We believe accurately measuring energy production is not a nice thing to do. It is a core responsibility for any ENERGY company.
We have been tracking our systems since day 1.
Here is how we are doing at the end of June 2025:
Year to date, we are slightly below our estimated production with systems reporting 95% of expected production.
For the quarter, we are at 91% of target with the wet may dragging us down a bit. But we will gladly take the rain when we can get it. Nothing cleans a solar module better than rain ( except snow).
Despite the Summer Solstice and the longest days of the year, we were down 8% versus plan in June. Predicting the weather is never easy.
Year to date, the bigger picture view, is that we are tracking 95% of estimated production with six months completed. If you remember back to school days, a 95% on a test is not the end of the world. In fact, it is pretty darn good. But the real point here is that we need to measure actual performance versus what we are telling homeowners during the sales process.
The other metric we measure monthly is run time. This simply measures whether our systems were not producing at any time during the month. We also had a blackout across many of our projects right around the June 20-22 timeline. When the grid goes down, systems without battery backup also go down. So we are not counting downtime with the grid event. And, since the phones didn’t ring during the blackout, we are pretty sure the batteries we installed worked just fine for customers who wanted back up power.
