Whatever you can do or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it.

With thousands of solar installation companies in the United States, ranging from small ‘Mom and Pop’ businesses to billion-dollar giants, homeowners have a wide variety of choices to match their values. We encourage our customers to explore multiple solar companies, as installing a solar system is a significant investment, and obtaining multiple quotes and proposals is essential.

Not all homes are created equal for solar power. Some homes just get a ton of son and others do not. Those homes getting a ton of sun also are baking come summer when the electric bill spikes. Going solar literally cools your house down, converting that heat energy into clean, reliable solar power. It is a win, win: use less AC and make your own electricity.

Find out your home’s solar potential for savings and clean energy production. It is an email or phone call away!

The second phase requires some help from the State Legislature in Harrisburg. Today there are bills in both the House and Senate that, if approved and signed by the Governor, will make Community Solar legal in Pennsylvania.

Community solar is a framework that allows people to produce solar power remotely (ie, away from their meter or home) and enjoy the savings on their electric bill. So if your home is beautifully tucked inside mature trees or if your roof won’t work for solar, then you can still participate via community solar. While the exact details still need to be worked out, community solar should offer every homeowner, renter, or business the ability to get clean energy while saving on utility costs.

The third phase in Butterfly’s plan is to link together our solar homeowners and community solar folks. This gets wonky quickly but we plan to create a “Virtual Power Plant” (aka VPP) right here in Montgomery County. With a VPP, we can help stabilize the local grid with stored energy when needed while enjoying increased savings. This too will need help from Harrisburg and PECO. Luckily there is plenty to do in the meantime.

In the ‘crawl, walk, run’ analogy, we are definitely in the crawl stage. But the success of neighboring states provides clear examples of how tomorrow’s grid will work with solar. Today’s pioneering work with VPPs will make it possible in a few years to truly link homes powered by the sun.
